In the Dark by Chris Patchell

I seem to have a penchant for thrillers lately and Chris Patchell's In the Dark certainly fits the bill.

My Rating: 5 out 5 stars
The book is wonderfully written in third person POV, the characters are so developed that they practically leap off the page, and the story flows very well. It fits nicely into the Thriller genre with the focus being the race to find a missing girl before it's too late.

Chris Patchell is a new to me author, and I can gladly say that this won't be the only book I read by her. The book revolves around a missing college student and the race to find her.

Fair warning: this isn't one of those books that keeps you guessing about who the bad guy is, or at least it didn't keep me guessing. I had that part figured out pretty quickly. However, the lack of surprise on that front didn't diminish the story for me in the least. In fact, it added an extra element to this gripping roller coaster ride of a thriller. I don't know how many times I thought, 'Oh, my gosh, they're gonna figure it now.' I guess I don't have to tell you that I thought wrong more than once. 😉

The story does focus on college student, Brooke, and the race to find her, but it's also about all the people who came together to help in that hunt. The depth of the characters and their stories - some of which were heartbreaking in their own right - brought it to a personal level. Combine that with Brooke's mother and how she deals with her worry for daughter while trying to get up and function everyday - not a pair of shoes that any mother should ever have to fill. It certainly hit this reader right in the heart.

Overall, this is a nail-biting tale with a twisted mad man and some pretty great characters that I hope to see in book 2 - did I mention there's a second book? I can't wait to dive into that one!

In the Dark is available for purchase at Amazon and it is listed on Kindle Unlimited.  I'm including the link here for you. If you enjoy thrillers, check this out. You won't be sorry.
