Our Secret Wedding: Our Secret Christmas is very well written in third person POV with chapters alternating between main characters, Lee and Connor. It fits very well into the Romance genre and is a friends to lovers, MM romance. The steam level is scorching, so I'd recommend 18+ listeners. Both stories are narrated by Tod Scott and he does a great job on the emotions of these characters.
Friends-to-lovers, feel-good gay romance. Contains a whole lot of man-on-man love action, preparations for Christmas, and an elopement to Gretna Green.
Impulsive and romantic, Connor is set to take over the family business, Sky High Scaffolds, with his siblings. But he might be ruled out as a future CEO because, even though he's almost 30, he's still single. Connor makes a life-changing discovery about a member of his construction team.
Lee is gay, but no one at work knows. The macho scaffolding crew isn't known for gay-friendliness. At 29 years of age, sexy scaffolder Lee is looking for love and commitment. He is not about to hook up with any straight guy who is going through a gay experimental phase. Especially not his work colleague and boss. Lee fears rejection if and when Connor wakes up and realizes he is not bisexual and not into guys.
Connor fears losing the love of his life if he cannot prove he's serious about him and win Lee's heart.
Christmas is a really big deal in Britain. The parties and preparations begin in November, at the latest.
In the construction industry, it means two weeks off work for Connor and Lee. Yes, two weeks. They've only been dating since September. In secret. They just want to spend the holiday time together, like any other gay guys in love. Alone and mostly naked.
And we all know the true meaning of Christmas is explaining and justifying to friends and family how you are spending the holiday and who with.
Perry weaves two engaging tales in this book. The first story, Our Secret Wedding, is the journey that Lee and Connor take together as they work through fears and feelings to become a couple. Connor and Lee have been friends since childhood, so Lee is apprehensive about Connors "sudden" attraction to him. The bisexual Connor has his work cut out for him to prove his feelings as the story progresses. This couple is so good together, even as they tiptoe around some issues and I absolutely loved the contrast between Connor's rough construction guy persona and his sweet, romantic side. This one was a bit different than so many MM romances of late, in that both men have their own reasons for keeping the romance secret and neither is pressuring for the other to "come out."
Our Secret Christmas focuses on the couple's first Christmas together and while they are still working out their issue, there is lots of romance and steam.
The only drawback for me was that some chapters felt like they ended a bit abruptly. I hadn't read either of the books previous to listening, so I'm not sure if that abruptness was the narration or the way the chapters are written, but other than that, the flow is good.
Overall, both tales held my interest and I particularly liked that Connor and Lee were so true to each other and their feelings. Tod Scott does an excellent job of showing the emotions in this book and his voices for each character brought it to life.
