✱✱ Book Review ✱✱ Alexander Shifter Brothers Series by Selina Coffey

Over the past few days, I've read all three books in the Alexander Shifter Brothers Series by Selina Coffey, KaneCade, and Jacob. Since I read them one right after the other, I decided to one blog post rather than three separate ones. You'll understand that decision a little better when I get to my review.

Momma Says: 3 out of 5 stars⭐⭐⭐

All three books in the series are written in third person POV and other than some minor grammatical things, they are well-written. They fall under the Paranormal Romance genre and as they do eventually get around to some shifter information, that would be accurate. The series is quite steamy, so I recommend 18+ readers. I should also note that the third book, Jacob, does have some same gender steam for those that prefer not to read it. (To each his/her own, right?)

Kane hates rules, but he’s not afraid to break them… especially for the woman he desires.

Kane wants Damesha from the first time he lays eyes on her, plain and simple. But he knows how strict the clan rules are about outsiders, and he knows the Alpha, his own brother, is not going to make any exceptions for him.

But he will do whatever it takes to have Damesha, even if that means turning against all his brothers!

Damesha is about to discover her true gift… as she unwittingly enters into the world of the Alexander’s…

Something tells Damesha she has to be in Kansas. There’s something that she needs to find there; she calls it research but deep down she knows there’s more to it...

But she wasn’t expecting the to meet Kane… he draws her in like no man ever has. Way beyond her attraction to his sexy, perfectly sculpted body, there’s something more to him than that, and she needs to find out what that something is...

Cade wants a wife but not love.

As head of the Alexander Shifter Clan, all he cares about is his duty to clan business, to family…

But they keep throwing women at him and he keeps rejecting them, again and again… and now rumors are spreading that maybe he doesn’t like women at all...

So he does what he does best, he handles the situation... by ordering himself a bride!

He could tell that Jacqui is a bit of an ice queen.

But he wasn’t expecting her to be so breathtakingly beautiful… he wasn’t expecting the electrifying attraction between them and he wasn’t expecting that she could be the true queen of the Alexander Shifter Clan.

War. Family. Love.
Jacob has always obeyed his brothers, his clan… until he meets Sabrina.

The battle is coming. The Alexander brothers are about to face an old enemy in the biggest fight of their lives and they’re not sure if they can win...

Jacob’s adopted brother, Jadrian, is in trouble with the vampires. Jacob knows being adopted by a shifter family must have made Jadrian feel like an outsider and he’ll do whatever it takes to help his brother, including getting involved with the vampire queen Sabrina. Though he isn’t sure he can trust her, his lust for her is undeniable.

But Sabrina has plans which go far beyond just mating, and Jacob may be the key...

KaneCade, and Jacob are available on Amazon and they are listed in Kindle Unlimited.

I do have to say that this series has some beautiful covers that catch the eye. Unfortunately, the stories didn't quite match up to the expectation.
If you're familiar with my blog, then you know I have a pet peeve about calling something one thing when it's another. Well, I sort of ran into that with this series. The fact that the series is the Alexander Shifter Brothers should mean some talk of the shifters and what kind they are, right? My problem was that Kane and Cade, books one and two in the series, are more contemporary romance than anything shifter-like.
Kane and Damesha's story is okay as far the romance goes. It's pretty straight-forward and it is certainly steamy, but other than Damesha having some psychic ability, the story is all about the romance. Kane's brother Cade is over-bearing and controlling, but he doesn't have to be alpha to the shifter clan for that. There is no mention of what kind of shifters these are until almost the end of the book. That part is rather interesting, but I won't go into details so I don't spoil it for any who haven't read it.
Next, we come to Cade and Jacqui's story. Another romance with the added twist that Jacqui is basically a mail-order bride. We do find out early that Jacqui has a bit of the supernatural in her, but unless you've read Kane, there's little about the shifter side of things. Like Kane, Cade's story is straight-forward and focused on the romance. This one also skips time and glosses over what should be major points in the story with just a mention.
Now, considering I've rated both, Kane and Cade, as okay reads, you may be wondering why I continued. To be honest, I hate to not finish something and I was hoping that these first books were leading to something. I was right about that, but in my opinion, they led to a little too  much.
Book three, Jacob, is where things go a bit crazy. Without a doubt, this one is loaded with all kinds of supernatural - shifters, vampires, magic, etc. But, unlike the first two books, it's not nearly as focused. I assumed that since the book is titled Jacob, that it would be about, well, Jacob, and it is in part. Jacob has his own issues and a blooming romance, but we also have another romance for the Alexander's adopted brother, Jadrian. On top of that, there's a war brewing and lots of action and intrigue to go along with it. So, what we have is two romances running alongside a coming war, plus some things going on with Kane and Cade as well. They are all brothers, so I expected to see all four of them, but there were so many plot lines running side by side that I found it hard to stay focused on any one of them. Don't get me wrong, I can multi-task, but this one was over the top busy.
To give an idea of what I'm talking about, I'll try to sum it up without giving too much of the story away. Jacob wants Sabrina, but feels betrayed by her - Jadrian wants Allana, but thinks she has ulterior motives and couldn't want him since he's just a human - Cade and Jacqui have their own upcoming excitement - Kane and Damesha have a baby to take care of - there's a war brewing that affects them all - Oh, and Jacob is a special kind of shifter and he's kept it hidden from his brothers. I felt like the author didn't want to add another book to the series, so just crammed it all into this one and everything combined to make for quite a convoluted tale that didn't allow this reader to invest in any one story line, let alone all of them.
Overall, the series sounded interesting and the premise was good, but the books didn't quite live up to it. The stories were okay reads, but with a little fleshing out on the details and perhaps one more book to tell everyone's story, they could've been so much more.
*All three books do include some scorching sexy times with these oh, so hot brothers and their mates.

Of course, this is just my humble opinion and if this series sounds like something you'll like, then you should definitely check them out. The links about my review will take you straight to the Amazon pages for each book.
