✱✱ Book Review ✱✱ The Best Man by Zane Morrow

The Best Man
Harper's Island Book 1
by Zane Morrow

One week to marry off her best friend. One chance to change the best man's mind.

Ever since her father died in the Persian Gulf, Grace has been spending her summers at Camp Hope. She began as a camper in need of help and healing. Now she's the director who gives back and is there for a new generation of campers. As she leaves to perform her duties as maid of honor at her best friend's wedding, she receives devastating news: Blake Morgan plans to close the camp at the end of the season.

The prospect of saving Camp Hope seems dismal at best, then she remembers: Blake Morgan will be at the wedding. After all, he's the best man.

Momma Says: 2 stars⭐⭐

After reading something heavy, I tend to look for something a bit more lighthearted, preferably something with a few laughs along the way. Between the cover and blurb, I thought this one might fit the bill. Boy, was I wrong. It is pretty lighthearted for the most part since the angst level is low, but I didn't find it humorous or romantic. Arrogance in the leading man can be attractive - to a point, but Blake is beyond that. He's a thoroughly unlikable jerk and every time he opens his mouth, he solidifies my opinion of him that much more. The story is choppy at best with what felt like a lot of missing information. I realize that this is the first book in the series and often times, that means there's the possibility of a cliffhanger and we get that here. The problem is I didn't find a single thing to entice me further into this story. Just as Blake attempts to do something that might redeem him somewhat, we're left hanging. I did like Grace, but I have no desire to see if she ends up with Blake, especially since I spent the entire ninety minutes it took to read this hoping that she'd give him the punch in the mouth he so desperately deserved, and regardless of any redeeming actions on his part, I find such a quick change in character to be completely unbelievable.
