Because of Jenny
by Brad Neaton
What if the person you need most is someone you don't even know exists?
Eric is a 22-year-old struggling with depression and teetering on the brink of suicide when he meets a gorgeous, utterly fascinating plot twist named Jenny. The two meet in an unlikely way, but soon discover they're kindred souls. A heroin addict, Jenny is also caught between wanting to escape life and wanting to live. Despite circumstances conspiring against them, Eric takes a leap of faith and commits himself to helping Jenny, and the two become an endearing pair, helping and accepting one another as they embark upon a mutual adventure that seems destined to fail.
Funny, irreverent, insightful, tragic, and raw, the story explores many of life's deepest questions while shedding light on what remains a little known epidemic. An unflinching portrayal of addiction, love, and resilience, Because of Jenny is a book you will never forget.

Momma Says: 5 stars⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Words like addiction, opioid, and heroin were at one time things most of us only heard about in movies, things that would never dare enter our quiet little homes, our peaceful communities. Today, addiction has affected most of us in some way, either directly or indirectly. Myself included, which made Because of Jenny a particularly emotional read for me.
The book is wonderfully written, and the story is thoroughly compelling. So much so, that I literally devoured it. I was hooked from the beginning and had to know how things worked out for Eric and Jenny. Make no mistake, this is not a sunshine and roses, glossed over tale. The subject matter is serious and the story is a frank look at both depression and addiction and the many ways lives are affected. It's by no means an easy read - it's emotional, at times dark, and certainly pulls at the heartstrings, but it is a story that needs to be told. It's also one that I highly recommend to anyone who has been affected by the heroin epidemic or depression.
