Momma Says: 3.5 stars⭐⭐⭐⭐
Nora's Promise is a well-written, slow-burn romance. There is a lot about racing, but I hesitate to call this one a sports romance. Davey is a driver, but there's more talk about the business side of things (sponsors, travel, etc) than the actual sport. However, once Davey learns about his son and starts to fall for Nora, racing does play an important part of the story. There is a touch of the paranormal with visits from a beloved family member and Nora's gift with animals, which adds an interesting element to the story. That said, I had a hard time warming up to Nora. She tended to run hot and cold with little in between. She's very rigid in her beliefs and has no tolerance for those who don't share them. In fact, the vegan/vegetarian aspect of the story got a little preachy and often became the focus. Given Nora's gift, it was understandable but after a while, it felt over the top and even tedious. Don't get me wrong, Nora did have her moments and the chemistry between her and Davey was really good. I just felt like he was doing most of the compromising in the relationship while she got her way. I did like Davey. He's a little jaded by his past and has no idea how to be a father, but he's determined to learn, and we see some major character growth with him. There is some steam between this pair, and I have to give props to the author for the timing of those scenes. There aren't many and they are very well done, giving us the feeling of the moment. While Davey and Nora are our main characters, there are several secondary characters who are just as, if not more interesting as our couple. We even get a second romance that is just so sweet, you can't help but want more of it. Despite the couple of aspects I didn't care for, the story did hold my interest and I enjoyed the read.
