Way Of The Wolf: Ascension
The Wulvers Series Book 1
by Rebecca Anne Stewart
My father is the alpha, a mantle my unborn brother will take one day. But as daughter of the alpha, my role isn’t yet certain.
My heart is set on becoming the beta, I want to show our kind that a female can be just as strong as any other wolf, without needing a mate to protect her.
But when my father is called to help a neighboring pack, suddenly everything changes. I’m thrown into a world of intrigue, deadly plots, and a fight for power.
As a female who never wanted or needed a mate, I now find myself torn between two males. One, the leader. The other, an untamed wolf.
Either way, taking a mate requires submission, and it’s not in my nature to submit. But no matter how hard I try to fight it, it seems my fate has already been decided.

This introduction into the The Wulvers Series is loaded with everything I would expect from a shifter story. Rebecca Stewart has hit the ground running with this debut. The story is told from our heroine's perspective, and while I found her likable, Cathwulf drove me a little crazy with her back and forth about Roarke. And that is the only real drawback for me, especially since it comes up fairly often. Given the circumstances, I understood it in the beginning, but Cathwulf is such a strong character that it just didn't feel right after a while. That aside, the story kept me turning pages with a solid mix of mystery and danger for some fascinating characters. This is the beginning of a continuing story, so we do get a cliffy with plenty of unanswered questions. I for one will be waiting impatiently for the answers to those questions, and I definitely want more of the intriguing world the author has created.
