Momma Says: 4 stars⭐⭐⭐⭐
When the Whistler Calls takes the unreliable narrator to a whole new level. Is Rosie insane? Is she unhinged after the loss of her husband? Or is someone out to get her? As secrets are revealed one by one, it's hard to know what's real and what isn't, and Rosie isn't the most stable as she looks for answers. The story is dark, and it is most definitely twisted. I did have an inkling about what was going on, particularly after a certain interaction with Rosie's sister-in-law, but Carla Day weaves this one so that even when you think you know, you'll second guess yourself. I will say that the big twist at the end, and it is a doozy, didn't really surprise me, but I didn't see the depth of it. I didn't even guess the depth of it. There are a few hints along the way, but they're cleverly hidden and none of them will lead to the whole conclusion. The story is well-written and love them or hate them, the characters are interesting. And we do get some of both categories in this tale. This book did something that doesn't happen very often anymore. It kept me on my toes from start to finish, and I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it.

was born in Leicestershire in 1970, to parents Barrie and Pamela Day.
She moved from place to place, not really settling anywhere for any
length of time but collecting life stories along the way, which she
would one day pen, on a weather-beaten log in Wales, with her dog by
her side.
