Instinct
The Elite Book 1
By Hanleigh Bradley
Narrated by Debbie Soelter
I'm not like the vampires in your books, little girl. I'm not agonizing over my own soul or the ethics of drinking your blood. I don't want saving or to find some great love that will alter my very existence. I'm not a monster. I'm the devil himself, and I have no problem playing that role. I take what I want, and right now, what I want is you. And there's nothing you can do to stop me.
The Elite is a PNR series of novelettes.

Momma Says: 3.5 stars⭐⭐⭐⭐
Instinct is the start of a series of novelettes, and to be honest, I'm kind of on the fence about it. I can't say I didn't like the characters, but I'm not sure I'm completely on board either. He's a vampire obsessed with a woman whose blood smells too good to resist, only the more he's around her, the more confused he becomes. That's pretty standard in vampire romance, and Everet is likable enough. I did have a problem with Farrah. These two are drawn to each other, but Farrah takes some revelations and situations a bit too calmly in my opinion, so I'm a bit on the fence about her. Granted this first in the series just scrapes the surface, and it ends in a cliffy/to be continued close, so I suppose I'm waiting to see where things go from here before fully jumping on the Everet/Farrah bandwagon. I did enjoy this one well enough, and Debbie Soelter does a pretty good job with the narration despite a few oddly timed dramatic pauses. She does have a sweet, almost innocent-sounding voice that works very well for the first impression I have of Farrah. In the end, this one is entertaining, and I'll be interested to see where it goes. I just would've liked if it had gone a bit deeper into these characters.
