Welcome to the Neighborhood
Midnight Gardens Book 1
by Mary Abshire
Sparks fly under the full moon in paranormal suburbia.
Vampire Alexandria Cartwright believes she’s found the perfect home in paranormal suburbia. An independent young woman and professional financial adviser, Alexi needs help from no man, human or paranormal. Until burglars break into her house and steal her most valuable possession–one which could lead to her demise.
Werewolf Gregory Holmes is instantly attracted to his new neighbor and wants nothing more than to protect her from any who would seek to harm her. Helping Alexi recover her stolen safe seems to be the perfect opportunity to show her how he feels.
Centuries of experience have shown Alexi all men are greedy pigs who only think with the brain below their belt. But as Greg comes to her aid repeatedly, she wonders if he’s the real deal. Can she overcome her loathing for men? Can Greg break through the wall she’s built to show her the meaning of love?
Momma Says: 5 stars⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Such a fun and totally engaging read! Mary Abshire is one of my go-to authors, and Welcome to the Neighborhood is just one more reason why. The story is full of the author's wit and humor intertwined with an absolutely adorable couple and a world I definitely want to know more about. Each supernatural creature is a good mix of the familiar lore we all know and some original traits that make them even more interesting. I love the whole premise for this book - a neighborhood of paranormals, but the most intriguing part is that it has the feel of any neighborhood you might drive through today. You have the neighborhood grump, the pushy single gal looking for a man, the social coordinator who gets everyone together, the nice guy next door (who really is a nice guy), and the new girl on the block just looking for a peaceful existence, a place to call home. And those are just off the top of my head. There are so many terrific characters in this one, and our romantic couple is an opposites attract pair that absolutely fit together. Alexi and Greg are both likable, and their love story happens pretty quick, but the author does it in a way that doesn't really feel as fast as it is. Alexi is secretive and she doesn't trust easily, which makes perfect sense with her backstory, but Greg is quietly persistent, which is one of many things I loved about him. The story is a great mix of sweet and sexy romance, suspense, and a touch of danger, and it's done with some solid world-building, some well-timed wit, and some oh, so steamy fun for our romantic couple. I can't wait to see what next for this neighborhood and it's colorful residents.
