Hating the Player
Campus Wallflowers #2
By: Rebecca Jenshak
Narrated by: Tim Paige & Cindy Kay
Gavin Leonard is the worst.
He lives in the best party house off campus at Valley U, overrun by jocks galore.
I live next door, watching Jane Austen adaptations with my sketchbook in hand.
He stays on his side of the fence.
I stay on mine.
Now we're accidentally on a camping trip together, but there's only one tent left.
Gavin Leonard is the worst.
And he's the last guy who broke my heart.

I loved the first Campus Wallflowers book, so I was looking forward to the next couple's HEA. Rebecca Jenshak does not disappoint! This time around, it's a second chance romance for Gavin and Violet, and I just loved these two to pieces. There is some angst, but Rebecca Jenshak balances it wonderfully with witty dialogue, silly situations, some oh, so sweet moments, and some steamy goodness. Basically, the story is not bogged down with unnecessary relationship angst. I would've liked a bit more resolution for Violet, but that wasn't a dealbreaker for me by any means. Gavin has some family stuff to sort through, and it takes him a bit to realize he doesn't have to do it all by himself. He is such an absolute sweetheart that I couldn't help but fall for him. I understood Violet's hesitance, but that didn't keep me from wanting to see him get his second chance.
Tim Paige and Cindy Kay give voice to the characters, and they ARE Gavin and Violet. It's just that simple. Almost instantly, they were the voices of this couple, and it all just worked. They capture all the feels, the sexual tension, the steamy fun - all of it. I think this was my first time listening to either of these narrators, but it certainly won't be my last. So, the story, the characters, the narration, the author: it all combines for another impossible to hit pause listen, and I can not wait to see what's next for the Campus Wallflowers.
