✱✱Book Review✱✱ Somehow Everlasting Duet - Almost Strangers & Strangers in Love - by Claudia Burgoa

USA TODAY BESTSELLING AUTHOR Claudia Burgoa pens an emotional, heartbreaking romance duet where soulmates can’t be together and everything around them tears them apart.

I found it (him) at the bookstore.

Love.

He was six foot four, lanky, blue-eyed.

Jacob Decker was goofy, handsome, and cheesy.

There’s no better way to describe him.

But what can I expect of an eighteen-year-old boy who’s lived under a rock all his life?

I’ll let you into a little secret.

I had no idea what to expect.

We were each other’s first everything.

But the fantasy lasted only a semester.

Soon I had to move away.

A few years later, he was a rockstar, and I was…

Grasping for a lifeline.

The problem with first loves is that they never leave you.

But they never come back, do they?

Almost Strangers is the first novel in the Somehow Everlasting duet, a Decker Family Novel. This book ends on a cliffhanger that'll change everything...

The Somehow Everlasting Duet is based on Jacob Decker and Pria Walker's story. Part of this duet was released as Uncharted.

So, I knew a couple of things about Almost Strangers before I even read the first word: it's part of a duet, so this first book was going to leave me hanging, and the angst would be off the charts. I had book two ready to go, which is something I highly recommend, but if I hadn't, I would've been one very impatient reader. As for the angst - well, this is Claudia Burgoa, and I've learned if she takes us on a journey, she makes it worth the trip. That knowledge didn't keep me from shedding a few tears along the way, though.
This is the start of Jacob and Pria's love story. Young, just getting ready for college, Jacob is just the sweetest guy. The first time he and Pria meet is definitely what I'd call a meet-cute, and I'd have to say that most girls couldn't help melting right there in the bookstore. But Pria isn't most girls, and she's had to grow up much faster than the average young adult. Anyway, I just loved this pair to pieces. They're so sweet together as they move from friendship to something more serious.
So, where are those earlier-mentioned tears? Well, I'm getting to that. I knew all the hearts and flowers couldn't last; this is a duet, after all. I was kind of pins and needles, waiting for that other shoe to drop. And drop, it does. Then things start to snowball, and my heart broke for this couple. I'll stop there, so I don't spoil it for anyone, and I'll just wrap it up by saying you have got to read this book. Have part two ready and waiting, but definitely don't skip Jacob and Pria's journey.

USA TODAY BESTSELLING AUTHOR Claudia Burgoa finishes an emotional rockstar romance duet where second chances between soulmates could make the difference between love and loss.

Karma is a… she’s not nice.

It’s been ten long years since Jacob and I parted ways.

I moved on… well, at least I thought I did.

That was until I’m asked to clean the image of Jacob Decker.

Rockstar, playboy, womanizer JC Decker.

He’s spoiled, rude, and inappropriate.

I shouldn’t take the job, but I need the money.

I swallow my pride and work for him.

Closely.

Too close.

That’s when I uncover the wounds he hides.

The scars underneath his dismissive attitude.

And his shattered heart.

Can I just walk away when I’m about to find the man I once loved?

Strangers In Love is the conclusion of the highly angsty Somehow Everlasting novel.

Holy Moly, talk about angst. Jacob and Pria absolutely broke my heart, and I'm really glad that ten years apart wasn't in real-time. I couldn't have stood the wait. This second in the Somehow Everlasting Duet tugs at all the heartstrings. Jacob and Pria so obviously love each other, but they've both got some things to work through first. Jacob has his share of problems, and his head isn't always in the right place, but I love that we get to see some of that sweet guy he was as he starts figuring things out. And Pria, you can't help but hurt for Pria. She's had so many hard hits in her life with so many reasons to become jaded, but she's as lovable as Jacob. We also get to visit with the rest of the family, which is a nice little bonus to an already great story.
Strangers in Love has a higher angst level than the first book, but most of it comes from the growing pains Jacob and Pria have to go through to get to that happy ever after they so deserve. So, yes, we have lots of angst accompanied by lots of tears, and at times, I really wanted to shake the daylights out of both of them a time or two. It was also worth all of it. Jacob and Pria are one of those couples that stay with you, one that you'll want to visit over and over again.
