✱✱Audio Book Review✱✱ Piper Rayne's Kingsmen Football Stars

Kingsmen Football Stars
By: Piper Rayne
Narrated by: Joe Arden & Callie Dalton

The start of Lee Burrows and I was a college girl’s biggest fantasy.

Campus’ most popular guy, the starting quarterback, the same guy I’ve crushed on forever, notices me—the quiet introvert.

Although, he never would’ve noticed me if he didn’t need my help passing our biology class. I didn’t think I had a chance with him until he started flirting with me and asking me questions like, “Who was the guy you were talking to?” and “Do you have a boyfriend?”

It took a few tutoring sessions before we ditched the library to “study” at Lee’s apartment.

It was a fantasy come true until I found out the truth and vowed that Lee Burrows would never get another chance with me again.

NOTE: This is the prequel to the Kingsmen Football Starts series. You do not have to listen to it to enjoy, You Had Your Chance, Lee Burrows.

False Start is the perfect title for this new adult college romance. It's the prequel to book one in Piper Rayne's Kingsman Football Stars, but technically, you don't have to listen to this one to understand everything going on in the first book. That said, it gives a good foundation for how Lee and Shayna started and what led to everything that comes later. I found both characters likable, even if I didn't like Lee's actions. It's a quick listen, so I'll skip the details. Let's just leave it at this prequel is a steamy, fast-paced romance, and it's narrated by Joe Arden and Callie Dalton - duet narration nonetheless! So, it doesn't take long to get lost in the story. As far as I'm concerned, this is an excellent combination of author and narrators, and it's a good way to get the backstory on some pretty great characters.

Lee f’ing Burrows

The Kingsmen’s star quarterback.
Legendary throwing arm.
Six-pack abs.
Kissable lips.

Oh, but don’t forget, he’s also a lying, heartless egomaniac who broke my heart in college.

It took me years to build myself back up after his deceit, and now I have the dream opportunity to prove myself working as a sports therapist for a professional team.

The hurdle? Or mountain to be more accurate…
The job is with the San Francisco Kingsmen.

Back when I was a naïve college girl, I felt lucky that he even noticed me. Now eight years later, he’d be lucky if I gave him the time of day.

Which I won’t. Not ever.

Some people don’t deserve a second chance and Lee Burrows is one of them.

Now if someone could only tell him that because he’s hell-bent on scoring the winning touchdown and won’t accept that it’s game over for us.

You Had Your Chance, Lee Burrows = a second chance romance, a great couple with chemistry to spare, witty dialogue, steamy goodness, and duet narration done by Joe Arden and Callie Dalton. Second-chance romance is one of my favorites, and after meeting this couple in the prequel, I really wanted them to get that second chance. Shayna has plenty of reason to still be mad at Lee, even after 8 years have passed, but he's certainly determined to at least gain her forgiveness. They do have their work cut out for them to get that second chance, but the journey makes it even sweeter. Of course, the narration is terrific. If you haven't had the pleasure of listening to Joe Arden, you don't know what you're missing. These first two Kingsmen Football books were my introduction to Callie Dalton, and I'm impressed with her work as well. And duet narration! Talk about total immersion in the story! So, another great listen written by Piper Rayne, and after the way this one ended, I'm looking forward to the next.
